Dear Ms. Cales:

Thank you so much for your letter of 22 October 1987. The information concerning Ritchie which you have provided really helps us to fill in his pre-Pacific Northwest career. We truly appreciate your help and will look forward to any additional information which you may be able to send us.

We had several questions: 1) Is there a process by which we might order good black and white glossy photograph copies of the historic photographs you have of the various Ritchie buildings? What would be the cost? 2) Your city directories appear to be on microfilm--can they be borrowed through inter-library loan? (We are wondering if we might be able to search them for listings of draftsmen and thereby get an idea of how large Ritchie's office was about 1887.) 3) Ritchie claimed in his Spokane biography to have had offices in Wellington and Arkansas City as well as Winfield. However, the Wellington Library is unable to find any listings for Ritchie there--did his firm go by some other name? (We have not yet heard from Arkansas City.)

Would you be interested in some information on the results of our search for information on Ritchie? We have verified that he came from a prominent family in Ohio and we will eventually be able to send information concerning the details of his career in Seattle and Spokane.

Again, we really appreciate all your help with this; your material is really good. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Mr. Jeffrey Karl Ochsner:

In answer to your letter of 1 November 87:
I am enclosing several postcards from the historical museum of Ritchie buildings. I checked on having copies made of our original photographs, and found a photographer who does work for the museum who thought that he could reproduce them for you at a minimal cost, I am enclosing his name, address and phone number so that you may respond directly with him. The only thing different that I have that you might want is a view of the Cowley County National Bank. The postcards were taken from the original pictures that I have.
We do have some city directories on microfilm, but they are not available through inter-library loan. I have however enclosed an article, that I found which answers most of your questions.
I would very much like to have whatever information you can send me regarding Mr. Ritchie, as I hate missing puzzle pieces!
I very much enjoyed doing this work for you, and would gladly help you continue your research if you need anything else. You might be interested to know that this project has made me decide to make a business out of my hobby, since it is fascinating, but time consuming. While on the subject of business, would you please send $5 to the library to cover coping expenses.
Unless I here otherwise from you I will now discontinue my research on Ritchie. It has been a pleasure working for you.

P.S. I have found no record of the Savings Bank or the proposed Board of Trade Building.
