This document shows the timeline of events leading up to the shooting of Constable Siverd at 9th Avenue and Main Street in Winfield, KS on October 25, 1893 by Morgan Wright. Also, the timeline of the actions of Gilbert Twigg are chronicled to show the lead up to him carrying out a shooting at 9th and Main on August 13, 1903. This shooting took place during a band concert where there was a large gathering of people.

FATAL GUN SHOTS AT WINFIELD CROSSROADS
May 4,1891 Winfield City Council ordered the
city marshal to close all "joints" where liquor was sold.
1892 "Bootlegging” abounds and warrants issued for bootlegger Wilbur Norton.
September 16, 1893 Cherokee Strip Run from Arkansas City.
October, 1893 Norton returned to Winfield after failing to secure land in the Cherokee Strip Run.
October 25, 1893 Norton arrested by Constable H. H. Siverd. Morgan Wright, friend of Norton, fatally shot Siverd at Ninth and Main.
August 2, 1900 Gilbert A. Twigg, Army man, subscribed to Winfield Courier Weekly while in Onemada, Cuba.
January 1, 1902 Twigg subscribed to Weekly while in Banale, Panay, Philippine Islands.
September 1, 1902 Twigg, in Great Falls, Montana
wrote letter to friend telling of his life as a miller at $3.00 per day.
August, 1903 Twigg wrote letter to Winfielders "who have interested themselves so much in my welfare .....that I do not know the real cause of being treated in the manner in which I have been treated.” (Letter found after Twigg’s death in a trunk in his room.)
August 1, 1903 Twigg purchased a 12 bore, double barrel gun and two boxes of shells.
August 13, 1903 Thursday, 9:15 p.m. Band Concert in progress at Ninth and Main. Eight shots from double barrelled shot gun fired by Twigg striking and killing 5, injuring 25.
August 13, 1903 Thursday, 9:30 p.m. Another "softer
shot” heard and Twigg found dead in alley west of Main with a revolver under his body.
