Description

Chuck moved to Winfield in January of 1903 when he was 7 years old. He recalls the mud streets and the hitching posts that lined Main Street. The population he recalls was five to six thousand. He shared the changes he has seen over the past 70 years. As a young boy he ran a shoeshine stand outside of a barber shop. He has a fond memory of making $6.00 in one week. He recalls when the first automobiles came to town and scared most of the horses. As an adult he worked at a barber shop which also offered shaves and baths to men. He also played baseball and at one time Winfield had one of the best teams in the area.
