Description
Lottie recalled their family moving to Winfield in 1902. Her brother died on their farm in Hiawatha, KS and her father just could not continue to live there. They built a house on 814 East 9th which was an alfalfa field at the time. She recalls how the houses around them were built. Her father had some land near Rock that he farmed. Lottie graduated from Winfield High School in 1911. She attended the Winfield College of Music and graduated in 1913. She taught piano lessons for years. She recalls being part of the girls club duirng the Chautauqua meetings. It was ten days full of lectures, games, and music. Her husband bought a grocery store which bacame the Sloan grocery store. He was in the business for over 30 years. She worked along side him to keep the business going.
