Frances recalls that her grandfather settled in Sedan, KS after the Civil War. Her father began working at a bank in Sedan when he was 16. Her mother came to visit her sister who was living in Sedan and this is how her parents met. Her parents married in 1887 in New Mexico where her mother's family had settled. They moved to Winfield shortly after where her father worked at the State Bank. One of her fondest memories was of her high school years. Her group of girlfriends would always go out with a group of boys. For 40 cents a couple, they could go to the movies and get an ice cream after.
