Description

Warren recalled the tailor and laundry businesses that Tom and Frank Parker owned together which began in 1893. In the beginning they would send the measurements to a tailor in Chicago that would make the garments. Eventually they found their own tailor. They would travel around the area with around 500 diffent types of wool for customers to choose from. Warren came from Sweden in 1915 and worked in New York, Boston, & Chicago before coming to Winfield in 1921 to be a partner with the Parker brothers. Eventually, Warren took over the business in 1943 and at that time there was also a haberdashery section to the business. He brought some experinced tailors from Sweden and had to guarantee the goverment that they would not become burdens. During World War II, he stopped traveling to customers and reduced the number of suits they would make. Once the war ended then they continued to visit customers door to door. He retired in 1972.
