Description
Natalina shares the memory of her uncle who sent for her father in Italy to join him in Brazil to work on a coffee plantation. He did and Natalina was born on this plantation. Yellow fever came and they survived and returned to Italy. In 1905 when she was five years old, her parents came to Winfield and settled in town near Island Park. She begam school at North Ward (Irving) School. She went to the Bryant School for 2nd through 6th grade. He father worked for the Sante Fe Railroad. They were foreigners and Catholic, so they had some discrimination to overcome. Her father eventually became a naturalized citizen. After teaching for four years, she was married in Oklahoma City. Her husband worked for the Arkansas City Traveler. They joined the Lockwood Players and toured the country after having their 2 sons. She had a tailor shop in Wichita after leaving Arkansas City. She had a third son while living in Wichita and at some point, her husband left them. Times were hard when she was raising the boys on her own. In 1950, she moved to Winfield after her mother had passed away.
