Description

Mr. Treadway shared stories of his 95 years in the city of Burden in Cowley County. In 1900, Burden had a population of about 1,400 with a variety of businesses. He remembered that it took a day to do a round trip to Winfield by horse and wagon. He also remembers Buffalo Bill coming on the train. After he did his hunting of the Buffalo for the train workers, he would do his show. Mr. Treadway remembers that he was a great shot. Once Oklahoma began to get settled, many of the businessmen moved their stores to Blackwell, OK and never returned.
