Description
Part 1: Ralph shares the memories of his father and mother who both came from Illinois to settle in Burden, KS. His father worked on the railroad and also started the Henderson Drug Store with his brother in 1884. His mother came with her parents on the train from Illinois. Ralph also was a medic in WWI in 1917.
Part 2: Ralph shares the history of the Burden Fair which began in 1892. Doctors, lawyers, and merchants in the town met at the Henderson Drug Store to begin planning the fair. It began with horse races. They tried to add an agricultural aspect to the fair, but it was not profitable. Ralph also shared more of his memories in WWI and his life after returning home in 1918. He met his wife in Winfield where she was second grade teacher. They were married in 1923 and settled in Burden.
