Description

Ida shared her memories of growing up in the Tisdale area during the early 1900s. Her grandparents come from Kentucky in the early 1870s and settled in Tisdale. Their home was built to be a hotel for the area, but it was always a residence. It had 9 rooms and grand front and back staircases plus a full basement. Her grandfather ran a grocery store in Tisdale which had candy, dry goods, and fabric. Tisdale at that time also had a blacksmith, church, school, and skimming station for processing milk. Ida was married in 1919 and moved to her husband's parents' home where dairy cows, chickens, and fruit trees were their main source of income.
