Description
Alice shared the history of how her family came to Cowley County. Her father was born in Canada and immigrated to New York State. Her mother was born in New York State. As children they both moved with their families to Minnesota. They were married in 1887. In 1895, they traveled by train to Cowley County where their wagon was put on a train car. They lived on a farm by the Walnut River for a year until they moved to Winfield. Alice shared her memories of her school days in Winfield. After her father passed away in 1921, she began working at the Free Press which became the Courier and was employed there for 25 years. Stories of the chickens and other farm animals that they had in town were also shared.
