Description

Stanley was born in Tennessee and spent some time in Arkansas as a child.
His first jobs was carrying a paper route and working at a filling station. In 1937 he began working as an engineer at a refinery in Oklahoma. He moved to Cowley County in 1943 to work for the railroad. He continued to work there until 1970. He shared memories of the decline of the railroad and how it affected the jobs in the area.

Margaret was born in Winfield, KS, and her parents came from Hannibal, Missouri. Went to school at Bryant School and Winfield High School. Her father was a farmer east of town for many years and then worked for the city. At age 14 she worked for a widow by taking care of her kids. She shared memories of growing up in Winfield. Chautauqua was one fond memory she had as a child. Her dad purchased their first car for $750. It was a Ford, and he used gold pieces to pay for it. She runs an The Treasure Chest antique shop in town now.
