Description
Edna was born in Belle Plaine, KS in 1900. Her parents were both born in Illinois. She grew up in Belle Plaine and went to Southwestern College in 1917. After she was married, she moved around the area in South Central Kansas. She finally settled in Winfield in 1944. Her ancestors, the Slaters, came from England and smuggled in the plans for the cotton spinning and weaving machinery. Her father came to Kansas to be a hired hand as a teenager and eventually owned his own farm. She traveled with the Southwestern College male quartet. She was the announcer for their concerts and made money by donations. After she had children, she stopped teaching and raised their children. She also took care of her mother in her the years before her passing.
